About

Devils Head Campground is a rustic, first-come, first-served campground nestled at the base of Devil's Head Trail in Colorado's Pike National Forest. The landscape is characterized by striking rock formations and ponderosa pine forest, with outstanding views of the surrounding Front Range foothills. The campground serves as the primary trailhead for the 1.4-mile hike to the historic Devil's Head Lookout Tower, one of the few remaining staffed fire lookouts in Colorado. The campground operates seasonally from late May through late September, with full services during peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day) including an onsite host and trash collection. Extended season after Labor Day offers reduced services. Access is via Rampart Range Road, which closes December 1 and typically reopens around April 1, weather dependent. Amenities are basic: vault toilets and picnic tables are provided, but there is no potable water, hookups, or dump station. Campers should bring all drinking water. Each site accommodates up to 8 people with a maximum of 2 tents and either 2 vehicles or 1 RV. Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed at all times. Note that only the upper loop is currently operational due to sedimentation issues in the lower loop.

Directions

From Sedalia, take US Highway 85 south, then turn west on Highway 67 for 10 miles to the junction with Rampart Range Road. Turn south onto Rampart Range Road and continue for 10 miles. Devil's Head Campground has a signed turnoff.
