About
Hidden in the Rampart Range of Pike National Forest, Flat Rocks Campground is an ideal base camp for ATV and motorcycle riders exploring the Rampart Range Recreation Area. The campground features 19 wooded campsites that accommodate both tents and recreational vehicles up to 30 feet in length. As the only designated campground allowing off-road vehicles on the road, it tends to fill quickly during peak season.
Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and potable water are available during the main season. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations, requiring campers to arrive in person to claim a site. ATVs and off-road motorcycles are permitted to enter and depart the campground for direct trail access, making it particularly popular with OHV enthusiasts.
Beyond motorized recreation, the area offers excellent hiking opportunities, most notably the 1.4-mile trail to Devil's Head Lookout. This challenging hike gains 940 feet in elevation and culminates with 143 stairs to a historic fire lookout tower offering panoramic views of peaks over 100 miles away on clear days. The campground's location along Rampart Range Road provides access to the extensive network of trails in the area.
