Cape Lookout State Park
Open — Open year-round with seasonal considerations. From October through March, winter weather may cause closure of part or all of the campground. The park will close in winter 2026 for major improvements to water and electrical utilities, restroom facilities, and roads. Beach restrictions apply March 15 through September 15 during western snowy plover nesting season.
About
Cape Lookout State Park is positioned on a five-mile sandy spit between Netarts Bay and the Pacific Ocean in Tillamook County, Oregon. The park serves as both a destination campground and a launching point for exploring the Three Capes Scenic Route. With 230 total sites including 170 tent campsites, 38 full hookup sites, one site with electric and water, 13 yurts, 6 deluxe cabins, and 2 group tent sites, the campground accommodates a wide range of camping preferences. A hiker/biker camp is also available. The C Loop is particularly popular among campers, featuring private, well-separated sites nestled among gorgeous old-growth trees. The park's location provides direct beach access and proximity to excellent hiking opportunities. The Cape Lookout Trail, a moderate 4.8-mile round trip hike with 400 feet of elevation gain, leads to spectacular ocean views from the cape's tip. Additional trails wind through coastal forest, offering diverse experiences for hikers of varying abilities. Campers should note that beach restrictions are in effect March 15 through September 15 during western snowy plover nesting season, limiting beach activities to foot and equestrian traffic on wet sand only. The park has removed all garbage dumpsters from the overnight campground; campers must bring trash to the compactor near the registration booth. Beach access can be difficult year-round, and winter weather from October through March may cause partial or full campground closures.
