About

Heckscher State Park spans 1,600 acres on the south shore of Long Island along the Great South Bay, originally the 19th century estates of George C. Taylor and J. Neal Plum. The park's campground offers 67 campsites with no hookups and 15 newly built waterfront cottages that accommodate 2-6 people with full kitchens, bathrooms, and climate control. The campground provides hot showers, flush restrooms, a dump station, and water spigots throughout. The park features extensive recreational opportunities including bay swimming with lifeguards during season, a boat launch for accessing the Great South Bay, and four miles of paved multi-use trails for biking and walking. Additional activities include fishing, disc golf, kayaking, canoeing, and windsurfing. Large open fields host soccer, cricket, and lacrosse. The park's scenic picnic groves and wildlife viewing opportunities attract nearly a million visitors annually. Fire Island provides a stunning backdrop across the bay, and visitors frequently spot white-tailed deer and diverse bird species throughout the park.
