Closed — Closed for the season. The house operates from mid-May through Columbus Day Weekend in October. Reservations open in early spring via Recreation.gov.

Lifeguards off-duty at Watch Hill on Wednesday, 8/27

The beach at Watch Hill is open, but will remain unprotected until lifeguard coverage resumes on Thursday, August 28. Please use caution and stay safe when visiting the seashore.

Pet Restrictions, Beach Driving Closures in Effect March 15 through Labor Day

To protect threatened nesting shorebirds, pets are prohibited in the Otis Pike Wilderness and on federally-managed ocean beaches. Beach driving is closed at Lighthouse Beach, Sailors Haven and the Wilderness area.

Talisman-Barrett Beach Dock Closed Due to Ice Damage; Reduced Services for Summer Season

Due to damage from winter ice, the Talisman-Barrett Beach dock is closed to all public use until further notice. No lifeguards will be present during the summer season. Visitors should pack out trash and expect reduced restroom services.

Boardwalks at Watch Hill Partially Closed

Due to storm damage, partial closure of boardwalks at Watch Hill Nature Trail are in effect.

Possession or use of marijuana inside Fire Island National Seashore is prohibited.

While New York provides for regulated possession and use of marijuana, it remains an illegal drug under federal law and enforced within National Park units.

Raccoons Within Federally-managed Areas Observed Exhibiting Distemper Symptoms

Visitors are advised to avoid potential human and pet encounters with wildlife including raccoons. Raccoons with Canine Distemper Virus may appear lethargic or disoriented. CDV cannot be transmitted to humans, but can be transmitted to unvaccinated dogs.

The Bayberry Dunes House offers guests a secluded Fire Island retreat within Fire Island National Seashore, located just south of the Watch Hill marina and a short walk from the Davis Park community. This fully furnished 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom beach house features two queen bedrooms and two twin bedrooms, accommodating up to 8 guests. The first floor houses all bedrooms and bathrooms, while the spacious second floor contains the living, dining, and kitchen areas with multiple windows for natural ventilation. The house comes equipped with a full kitchen including stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and all necessary cookware and utensils for 8 people. Amenities include a barbecue with propane tanks, box fans for each bedroom, and basic cleaning supplies. Guests must bring their own linens, sheets, and towels. The property is not climate controlled and has no heat or air conditioning. Accessible only by ferry or private boat, the house is approximately a quarter-mile walk from the Watch Hill Ferry dock or one mile via boardwalk from the Davis Park Ferry. Nearby attractions include a free lifeguarded beach, ranger-guided programs such as nature walks and kayak tours, and the LoveFINS concession offering food, drinks, and weekend entertainment. The location provides easy access to the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness for hiking and wildlife watching.

Directions

The house is accessible by ferry or private boat only. From Patchogue, NY: Take the Watch Hill Ferry from 150 West Ave., Patchogue, NY 11772 (quarter-mile walk to house) or the Davis Park Ferry from 80 Brightwood St., Patchogue, NY 11772 (one-mile boardwalk walk to house). Ferry terminals are accessible by car or LIRR train from Patchogue Station. Private boats can dock at Watch Hill Marina or Davis Park Marina.
