Open for the 2026 season from mid-May through Columbus Day weekend in October. Reservations require a minimum 6-night stay and are available through Recreation.gov. Check-in is 4:00 PM, check-out is 12:00 PM. A $250 refundable security deposit is required.

Lifeguards off-duty at Watch Hill on Wednesday, 8/27

The beach at Watch Hill is open, but will remain unprotected until lifeguard coverage resumes on Thursday, August 28. Please use caution and stay safe when visiting the seashore.

Pet Restrictions, Beach Driving Closures in Effect March 15 through Labor Day

To protect threatened nesting shorebirds, pets are prohibited in the Otis Pike Wilderness and on federally-managed ocean beaches. Beach driving is closed at Lighthouse Beach, Sailors Haven and the Wilderness area.

Talisman-Barrett Beach Dock Closed Due to Ice Damage; Reduced Services for Summer Season

Due to damage from winter ice, the Talisman-Barrett Beach dock is closed to all public use until further notice. No lifeguards will be present during the summer season. Visitors should pack out trash and expect reduced restroom services.

Boardwalks at Watch Hill Partially Closed

Due to storm damage, partial closure of boardwalks at Watch Hill Nature Trail are in effect.

Possession or use of marijuana inside Fire Island National Seashore is prohibited.

While New York provides for regulated possession and use of marijuana, it remains an illegal drug under federal law and enforced within National Park units.

Raccoons Within Federally-managed Areas Observed Exhibiting Distemper Symptoms

Visitors are advised to avoid potential human and pet encounters with wildlife including raccoons. Raccoons with Canine Distemper Virus may appear lethargic or disoriented. CDV cannot be transmitted to humans, but can be transmitted to unvaccinated dogs.

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...Kings (Brooklyn), Southwest Suffolk, Southeast Suffolk, Southern Queens and Southern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...Through Monday evening. * IMPACTS...Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The Bayberry Dunes House offers a unique National Park Service lodging experience on Fire Island's barrier island. This 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom beach house accommodates up to 8 guests with two queen beds and four twin beds. All sleeping quarters and bathrooms are on the first floor, while the spacious living, dining, and kitchen areas occupy the second floor with panoramic views. The house comes fully equipped with a complete kitchen including stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, and full cookware and dishware for 8. The outdoor deck features a propane BBQ grill and picnic table. Pillows and light blankets are provided, but guests must bring their own bed linens and towels. The house has no climate control but includes box fans and cross-ventilation from multiple windows. Guests enjoy access to Watch Hill's lifeguarded beach, the LoveFINS concession with food, drinks, and a general store, ranger-led programs, and hiking in the Otis Pike Fire Island High Dune Wilderness. The nearby community of Davis Park is a short boardwalk walk away.

Directions

Access is by ferry or private boat only. Watch Hill Ferry departs from 150 West Avenue, Patchogue, NY 11772 with free parking available. From the ferry dock, the house is a quarter-mile walk. Alternatively, Davis Park Ferry departs from 80 Brightwood Street, Patchogue, with approximately a 1-mile boardwalk walk to the house. Private boats may dock at Watch Hill or Davis Park marinas for a fee.
