About

Brown County State Park, often called the "Little Smokies" for its mist-shrouded ridges and valleys, encompasses 16,000 acres of forested terrain in southern Indiana. The park's campgrounds are spread across three main areas: Buffalo Ridge, Taylor Ridge, and Raccoon Ridge, offering a combined 401 electric campsites and 28 non-electric sites. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire ring, with access to modern heated restrooms and shower houses. The separate Horsemen's Campground provides 118 electric and 86 primitive sites with horse tie-ups and access to 70 miles of equestrian trails. Full campground services run from May through October. Winter camping is available November through March with reduced facilities and rates, with one heated comfort station and water source operating in Buffalo Ridge only. The park features a camp store, dump station, swimming pool, restaurant, interpretive center, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. All RVs and vehicles towing trailers must use the park's west entrance on State Road 46, located two miles west of Nashville. The north entrance passes through a historic covered bridge with a 9-foot height clearance and 3-ton weight limit, making it inaccessible to oversized vehicles. GPS directions are known to be unreliable for this park.
