About
Prince Creek Campground offers a remote backcountry camping experience on the pristine north shore of Lake Chelan at approximately 1,100 feet elevation. Accessible only by boat, the campground sits at the border of Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, making it an ideal basecamp for wilderness exploration. A floating dock accommodates up to three boats, though kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards do not require dock permits when simply entering or exiting the water. The campground provides six tent sites spread across the area, with five fire rings, five picnic tables, and three vault toilets. There is no potable water on site; campers must filter or treat water from nearby sources. Pack-out rules apply for all trash and waste. The site works well for larger groups given its layout and dock capacity. Trail access includes the Lakeshore Trail #1247, which runs along Lake Chelan connecting multiple backcountry destinations, and Prince Creek Wilderness Trail #1255 leading into the Sawtooth Wilderness interior. Commercial ferry service via Lady of the Lake and Stehekin Ferry provides passenger transport with scheduled stops at Prince Creek for those without personal watercraft.
Directions
From Chelan, boat 34 miles up lake to Prince Creek Campground on the north shore. Alternatively, drive south on Highway 97A for 3 miles, turn right onto Southshore Road for 17 miles to Twenty-Five Mile Creek State Park, then boat approximately 15 miles to Prince Creek on the north shore. Commercial ferry service via Lady of the Lake and Stehekin Ferry offers scheduled stops at Prince Creek.
