About

Domke Lake Campground is a primitive backcountry destination in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, accessible only by combining boat travel on Lake Chelan with a 3-mile hike. Visitors boat to Lucerne Landing, approximately 40 miles north of Chelan or 21 miles from Twenty-Five Mile Creek State Park, then hike the Domke Lake Trail #1280, which gains elevation and offers vista points at the half-mile and 1-mile marks. The trail leads to three small hike-in campgrounds around Domke Lake, historically offering a total of eight tent-only sites. The area sees light use due to its remote location. The campground is surrounded by forest that was impacted by the 2015 Wolverine Fire, which left standing hazard trees throughout the area. Water must be treated or filtered from the lake or nearby sources. The remote setting provides solitude in a scenic alpine lake environment, though visitors must be prepared for primitive conditions and the physical demands of both the boat access and substantial hiking required to reach the site.

Directions

From Chelan, boat approximately 40 miles north to Lucerne Landing (no road access). Alternatively, from Twenty-Five Mile Creek State Park, boat approximately 21 miles north. The Lady of the Lake provides passenger ferry service from Chelan to Lucerne. From Lucerne Landing, hike Railroad Creek Road #3100 for approximately 0.5 miles to Domke Lake Trail #1280 trailhead, then hike 3 miles uphill to the lake.
