About

Johnson Lake State Recreation Area encompasses 332 wooded acres surrounding Johnson Lake on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. The campground offers 48 campsites spread across multiple loops, with 25 sites available through online reservation and the remainder first-come, first-served. Each site includes a fire grate and picnic table, and the area features ADA-accessible vault toilets and drinking water. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout and is popular for fishing and canoeing, with a boat launch available. Wildlife is abundant throughout the recreation area, including moose, black and brown bears, lynx, squirrels, and hares. Six reservable picnic pavilions accommodate groups of up to 20 people, and a group camping area handles up to 30 people with 6 vehicles. The campground operates seasonally from June 1 through September 30. RVs up to 35 feet can be accommodated, though all sites are back-in configuration with no hookups. A camp host is present during the operating season. The 15-day stay limit applies.
