Pearson Hunter Camp

Open — The campground is currently open year-round. As a designated hunter's camp, it is primarily maintained during hunting season.

About

Pearson Hunter Camp is a very primitive camping facility designated as a hunter's camp within the Catahoula Ranger District of Kisatchie National Forest. Located directly on U.S. Highway 167 approximately 27 miles north of Alexandria, the campground offers convenient access for hunters visiting the adjacent National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve. This is a true primitive camping experience with minimal amenities. The campground provides vault toilets but no potable water, trash service, or other developed facilities. Campers must be entirely self-sufficient, bringing all necessary water and supplies, and packing out all trash. The camp is maintained primarily during hunting season when it sees the most use from hunters taking advantage of its proximity to prime hunting areas. The easy highway access and strategic location make Pearson Hunter Camp especially popular during Louisiana's hunting seasons. The surrounding Kisatchie National Forest and Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve offer opportunities for deer, turkey, and small game hunting. The primitive nature of the camp appeals to hunters and outdoors enthusiasts seeking an authentic backcountry experience in Louisiana's piney woods.
