About
Highway 472 Camp offers free primitive camping in a predominantly pine forest setting within the National Catahoula Wildlife Management Preserve, part of Kisatchie National Forest in Grant Parish, Louisiana. The camp is split into two distinct locations directly across Highway 472 from each other. The northern section falls under the Winn Ranger District, while the southern area is managed by the Catahoula Ranger District. Each side of the camp provides designated areas for both group and tent camping, along with vault toilets and an information board. This is a self-reliance camping experience with no potable water available on site, so campers must bring their own water supply. The camp sees heavy use during hunting seasons as it serves as a base camp for hunters accessing the surrounding wildlife management area. While primarily utilized by hunters during deer and turkey seasons, the campground is open to the general public year-round at no cost. Campers should be aware of hunting seasons when planning visits and contact the Catahoula Ranger District office for current conditions.
