About

Pasagshak River State Recreation Site is the only designated park land outside the immediate Kodiak city area accessible by road, located at mile 20 of Pasagshak Road about an hour's drive from town. The site sits at the delta where the three-mile Pasagshak River, flowing from Lake Rose Tead, meets Pasagshak Bay. The river is considered one of Kodiak Island's outstanding sport fishing streams, providing thousands of angler hours annually for Dolly Varden, sockeye, pink, chum, and silver salmon. The 25-acre recreation site features 12 primitive camping spaces divided between 6 tent sites and 6 parking sites that can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. The campground is undeveloped, operating on a first-come, first-served basis with a 7-night camping limit. Facilities include a hand-pump well for drinking water, vault toilets with ADA access, and 4 picnic shelters. The dramatic coastal scenery includes views of Pasagshak Bay, which supports rich marine and terrestrial wildlife including brown bears, whales, seals, dolphins, sea bird colonies, eagles, overwintering waterfowl, shrimp, and crab. Visitors must pack out all trash when leaving.
