About

Oyster Point Campground is located on the banks of the Newport River near the town of Newport, North Carolina, within the 160,000-acre Croatan National Forest. The campground features 15 sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire grill, parking spur, tent pad, and lantern post. Two vault toilets serve the area, but potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground serves as the trailhead for the Neusiok Trail, a 21-mile hiking route that meanders through cypress swamps, loblolly pines, and thick vegetation. Paddlers can access the Newport River via a small hand-launch suitable for kayaks and canoes. The Croatan Saltwater Trail weaves south to Bogue Sound and north via Adams Creek to the Neuse River. Power boating is permitted on the Newport River. The beaches of Atlantic Beach are a short drive away, and the towns of Newport and Morehead City offer grocery stores, retail, and restaurants. Due to its coastal location, the campground may experience temporary closures during hurricane season from June through mid-November.

From Newport, take SR 1154 to Forest Road 181 and turn right.
