About

Ophir Creek Campground is a well-established Forest Service campground nestled in the pines at 8,876 feet in the San Carlos Ranger District of Pike and San Isabel National Forests. The campground offers 31 sites, with sites 1-19 accommodating either 2 tents with 2 vehicles or 1 RV, while sites 20-31 are designated tent-only with limited parking for cars and motorcycles only. Recreation opportunities include fishing in Ophir Creek, hiking (including a one-mile trail to a waterfall behind site 22), mountain biking, and ATV riding on designated trails. Bishop's Castle, a quirky stone castle built by one man over decades, is just a 4-mile drive away. Bears are common in the area, and a bear closure order requires all food and scented items to be stored in a bear-resistant manner. Firewood is available for purchase at the host site for $10 per bundle. Senior Pass and Access Pass holders receive a 50% discount on camping fees.
