About
Ponderosa Group Campground is a developed group campground located within the Lake Isabel Recreation Area in San Isabel National Forest, 43 miles southwest of Pueblo, Colorado. Situated near the sparkling 40-acre Lake Isabel, this reservation-only facility is designed to accommodate large groups with a maximum overnight occupancy of 60 people and day use occupancy of 120 people. The campground can accommodate up to 28 vehicles. The site features a picnic shelter for communal gatherings and recreational amenities including volleyball and horseshoe facilities. Visitors have access to vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. St. Charles Creek flows close to the campground and offers fishing opportunities. The area provides excellent access to both motorized trails including Cisneros, St. Charles, and Snowslide, as well as a pleasant non-motorized hiking trail along Lake Isabel. The lake itself is popular for canoeing and fishing. The campground is located among pines at moderate elevation in south central Colorado's high country. Dogs must be leashed at all times, and only licensed vehicles may operate inside the campground. No firearms discharge or fireworks are permitted. The facility operates by reservation only through Recreation.gov.
Directions
Located 43 miles southwest of Pueblo. From Pueblo, go 25 miles south on Interstate 25 to exit 74. Go west 16 miles on State Highway 165. Turn into the south entrance at Lake Isabel, go 1 mile and look for the Ponderosa Group Campground signs.
