About
Oak Grove Campground is located in a picturesque valley surrounded by chaparral vegetation including canyon live oaks, ribbonwood, and chamise on the Cleveland National Forest. The campground is split into two loops: Ribbonwood (with flush toilets) and Oak (with vault toilets). Sites accommodate vehicles up to 32 feet and each includes a picnic table and fire grill. Potable drinking water is available throughout the campground. The area offers excellent stargazing opportunities due to minimal light pollution and supports diverse wildlife including mountain lion, bobcat, mule deer, coyote, and gray fox. Birders will find ample viewing opportunities. Oak Grove Trail begins across Highway 79 behind the Ranger Station, offering a 1.5-mile hike with steep terrain and panoramic views. The trail connects to Oak Grove Truck Trail for access to High Point Lookout. Nearby attractions include Palomar State Park and Palomar Observatory on County Route S6, where an active telescope is available for public viewing. Temecula Wine Country and the Agua Tibia Wilderness are also within reasonable driving distance. The closest town is Warner Springs.
Directions
From Interstate 15, take Highway 79 East. The campground is on the north side of the highway, across from the fire station. From Temecula, take State Route 79 south 24.1 miles and turn left at the campground sign.
