About

North Shore Campground occupies a scenic spot on Alturas Lake, the southernmost of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area's big lakes. The campground features 10 single sites and 4 double sites nestled in a mixed conifer setting. All sites operate on a first-come, first-serve basis with no advance reservations accepted. Payment can be made on-site via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature, though cellular service is limited. The lake offers excellent recreational opportunities including trout fishing, waterskiing, sailing, motorized boating, swimming, and picnicking. Hikers can access the Sawtooth Wilderness via the Cabin Creek trailhead to the north or the Alturas Lake Creek trailhead to the west. Vault toilets are provided, but potable water is not available so campers must bring their own supply. The campground operates seasonally from June through September, closing September 21st each year. The camp host departs September 15th. Pets are allowed but must remain on a leash. Occupancy is limited to 10 days within any 30-day period within a 30-mile radius of the SNRA. Campsites must be occupied the first night and cannot be left unattended for more than 24 hours.
