About
Nine Mile Picnic Site is a day-use only picnic area situated along the Sandia Crest Scenic Byway 536 in Cibola National Forest at 9,200 ft elevation. Surrounded by aspen, spruce, and fir trees, this forested site offers a shaded and peaceful setting for picnicking. The recently renovated facility features single, double, and group picnic sites with tables, grills, vault toilets, bear-proof trash receptacles, and hardened walkways. The site provides access to nearby trails including the popular Challenge Trail #233. There is no potable water, electricity, or firewood available on-site. This is strictly a day-use facility. No overnight camping is permitted at Nine Mile Picnic Site. A standard day-use amenity fee of $5 per vehicle applies, payable via Recreation.gov or at the on-site pay station.
Directions
From Albuquerque, drive east on I-40 to Exit 175. Proceed north on State Highway N-14 about 7 miles to State Road 536. Turn left (west) onto 536 and drive about 9 miles up to the picnic site. Look for signage on your left, set back from the road. Capulin Picnic Site is approximately one mile before Nine Mile.
