About
New Canyon Campground sits in the Manzano Mountains of Cibola National Forest, west of the village of Manzano in the Mountainair Ranger District. This small, rustic campground offers a peaceful mountain setting at approximately 7,600 feet elevation, surrounded by mixed conifer forest.
The campground provides basic amenities including picnic tables at each site and vault toilets, but campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Forest Road 245 provides access to the campground and continues beyond to Capilla Peak.
New Canyon serves as a convenient base for exploring the Manzano Mountains. The New Canyon Trail (Trail 101) begins directly across from the campground, offering access into the Manzano Wilderness. The area is known for its scenic beauty and offers opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the largest stand of Rocky Mountain bigtooth maples in New Mexico at the head of Tajique Canyon.
