About
Manzano Mountains State Park is a peaceful retreat nestled at 7,250 feet in the ponderosa pine forest of the Manzano Mountains, about 16 miles northwest of Mountainair in Torrance County. The 27-site campground offers a mix of tent and RV camping, with 11 sites featuring electric hookups ranging from 30 to 50 amp service. Site capacities vary considerably, with some accommodating RVs up to 64 feet while others are better suited for smaller rigs or tents. The park provides essential amenities including vault toilets, a dump station, and potable water available at spigots near the park office and dump station. Water is restricted to in-park use only and cannot be removed from the property. A visitor center, group shelter available by reservation, and 3.5 miles of hiking trails round out the facilities. The trails range from an easy half-mile interpretive nature trail to a longer 3-mile outer loop. The park operates seasonally from April 1 through November 30, closing December 1 through March 31 due to winter conditions. Reservations are required during peak season from April 1 through October 15, after which the campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis through the end of November.
