Manzano Mountains

Closed — Closed for the season through March 31, 2026. The campground reopens April 1, 2026 and operates through mid-October, with walk-in access available through November 30. Winter closures are due to snow and road conditions at 7,250 feet elevation.

Manzano Mountains State Park is a peaceful 160-acre campground located on the eastern slope of the Manzano Mountains in central New Mexico. Situated at 7,250 feet elevation, the park is nestled in a ponderosa pine forest with juniper and maple trees, creating a serene mountain retreat just over an hour south of Albuquerque. The campground features 27 individual campsites spread across East and West loops, with nine sites offering 30-amp electrical hookups. Sites can accommodate RVs up to 64 feet in length, with varying driveway lengths throughout the park. While there are no water or sewer hookups at individual sites, a dump station is located near the ranger station and potable water is available at hydrants throughout the park. An ADA-accessible site is available, and the park includes a group shelter for larger gatherings. Manzano Mountains State Park offers a network of hiking trails through the pine forest, providing opportunities for wildlife viewing, birding, and photography. The park's secluded location and quiet atmosphere make it an ideal family getaway and a convenient stop for road trips through central New Mexico. Access is via NM-131 from the village of Manzano, with the final mile on a gravel road. Winter road closures are common due to snow at this elevation.

Directions

From NM-55 turn onto NM-131 in the village of Manzano. Follow the asphalt road 2 miles to the park entrance, then straight ahead 1 mile on a gravel road to the campground.
