About

New Canyon Campground sits in the Manzano Mountains within the Cibola National Forest, managed by the Mountainair Ranger District. The campground offers a rustic experience at approximately 7,800 feet elevation, with vault toilets and picnic tables at each site. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground provides direct access to the Crest Trail and serves as a gateway to the Manzano Mountain Wilderness. The area features pine forests, diverse wildlife including deer, and opportunities for hiking and exploring the surrounding backcountry. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 22 feet in length. New Canyon operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. The primitive setting means reduced services; campers should be prepared to pack out all trash and may encounter closed or unserviced restrooms depending on seasonal staffing.
