Red Cloud Campground is a small, primitive camping area with 5 sites located in a serene Ponderosa pine forest at 7,600 feet elevation in the Gallinas Mountains area of Cibola National Forest. Situated near an old mining district west of Corona, New Mexico, this free campground offers a quiet retreat for campers seeking a rustic mountain experience. The campground features long back-in sites that can accommodate full-sized RVs, making it accessible for various camping styles. The campground is particularly popular during fall hunting seasons when it sees heavy use, but remains relatively quiet throughout the rest of the year. With no potable water and limited services, campers must come prepared and self-sufficient. The surrounding Ponderosa forest provides excellent opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the area's mining history. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis year-round.
Directions
From Corona, NM, take US-54 north for approximately 5 miles. Turn left onto County Road A019 (Forest Service Road 161) and continue for about 6 miles to reach the campground.
