About
Nevada Creek Cabin is a historic one-room log cabin situated on National Forest lands along the upper reaches of Nevada Creek, between Avon and Helmville in Powell County, Montana. At 5,400 feet elevation in a thick lodgepole pine forest, the cabin is surrounded by steep slopes, wide open ridges, and an intact northern Rocky Mountain ecosystem protected as an Inventoried Roadless Area.
The cabin sleeps up to 3 people with one bunk bed and one full-size bed, both with mattresses. Amenities include a wood stove for heat, propane stove and lights (propane provided), hand pump well for potable water, vault toilet, and a picnic area. Dishes, cookware, utensils, and cleaning supplies are provided. The cabin is located behind a gate, accessible by combination lock, just a few hundred yards from parking.
Trails lead directly from the cabin into the backcountry, including the Nevada Creek Trail #466 which connects to the Continental Divide Trail in about 5 miles of gentle terrain. The area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, fishing in Nevada Creek, hunting elk and deer, huckleberry and blueberry picking, and photography. All trails in the immediate area are non-motorized. The location is remote with no cell service, and visitors should come prepared with all necessary supplies as stores and services are a long drive away.
