About
Cummings Cabin is a historic structure representative of the mining cabins that dotted the Lincoln, Montana area around 1910. The cabin has been determined eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and now serves as a rustic getaway in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The cabin features two full-size beds and one twin bed accommodating up to four guests. Amenities include a wood stove and fireplace for heating, propane range and oven for cooking, eight propane lights, and a full set of dishes, pots, pans, and silverware. A vault toilet is located on site, and a hand pump provides non-potable water. An outdoor fire ring is available, and all garbage must be packed out. A food storage order is in effect due to bear activity. The cabin offers access to outstanding recreation including the Continental Divide Trail, Scapegoat Wilderness, fly fishing on the nearby Blackfoot River headwaters, and OHV riding via the Hogum Creek ATV trail. Winter visitors can access over 200 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and cross-country ski directly from the cabin. Entry is by combination lock; guests must call the Lincoln Ranger District prior to arrival to obtain the code.
Directions
From Lincoln, Montana, drive approximately 6 miles east on Highway 200 to Hogum Creek Road. Follow Hogum Creek Road to the junction of Black Diamond Road and Lower Hogum Creek Road. Take Lower Hogum Creek Road to the cabin driveway on the left, marked with a wooden sign and blue ski blazers. In winter, snow plowing occurs infrequently on Lower Hogum Creek Road; a parking area is plowed at the Black Diamond Road junction and visitors should be prepared for snow drifts beyond that point.
