About

Aspen Grove Group Use Area is a group campground nestled in forested mountain terrain on the banks of the Blackfoot River within Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. At 4,800 feet elevation beneath a canopy of cottonwood, aspen, juniper, lodgepole pine, and Douglas fir, this campground offers an ideal setting for larger families or groups seeking relaxation and mountain recreation. The campground accommodates up to 75 people total with one large group living area featuring six picnic tables, two serving tables, and a large fire ring, plus three smaller satellite areas connected by walking trails. The site provides back-in parking for up to eight RVs or trailers between 35 and 45 feet in length, with space for 20 passenger vehicles and room for 10-15 four-person tents. Amenities include a vault toilet, drinking water from a hand pump, and walking access to the Blackfoot River. The location offers exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities. The Blackfoot River is renowned for fly fishing, with populations of cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout in its cold, fast-moving waters. Indian Meadows Trailhead, approximately nine miles away, provides access to the Scapegoat Wilderness, while Alice Creek Trailhead offers hiking along the historic Lewis and Clark Trail to Lewis and Clark Pass. The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail is accessible in multiple locations around the Lincoln Valley. The area is home to grizzly bears, lynx, wolverines, deer, elk, gray wolves, moose, black bears, mountain lions, mountain goats, and mountain sheep.

Directions

From Lincoln, Montana, take State Route 200 east for 6.5 miles to the campground sign. Turn right at the sign onto a gravel road and go 0.5 miles to the campground. After entering the campground facility, follow the signs to the Group Use area at the far eastern edge of the campground.
