About
Aspen Grove Group Use Area occupies a scenic spot along the Blackfoot River in Montana's Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The group-only facility sits at 4,800 feet elevation in a diverse forest of cottonwood, aspen, juniper, lodgepole pine, and Douglas fir. The campground layout includes one main group living area with six picnic tables, two serving tables, and a large fire ring, connected by trails and road to three smaller satellite areas each with two picnic tables and a metal fire ring. The campground accommodates up to 75 people with back-in parking for 8 RVs or trailers (35-45 feet) or approximately 20-30 passenger vehicles. Space is available for 10-15 four-person tents. Facilities include vault toilets and drinking water via hand pump, though water service is not available during the walk-in period. The site is in grizzly bear country, requiring proper food storage. Recreational opportunities abound with direct Blackfoot River access for fly fishing (cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout), plus nearby trailheads to the Scapegoat Wilderness. Indian Meadows Trailhead is 9 miles away, and Alice Creek Trailhead is 15 miles away, offering access to the Lewis and Clark historic trail.
Directions
From Lincoln, Montana, take State Route 200 east for 6.5 miles to the campground sign. Turn right onto a gravel road and continue 0.5 miles to the campground. Follow signs to the Group Use Area at the far eastern edge.
