About
Anthony Chabot Family Campground is located in the Oakland Hills within Anthony Chabot Regional Park, approximately 1.5 miles above Lake Chabot in Castro Valley. The campground sits in a ridgetop eucalyptus grove that provides a woodsy atmosphere surprisingly close to the Bay Area urban centers. The main family campground features 75 campsites divided into several categories: 12 RV sites with full hookups (water, sewer, and 30 amp electrical service), 53 drive-up tent sites, and 10 hike-in tent sites. The hike-in sites are located within the campground perimeter but lack vehicle access or adjacent parking. Parking pads average 30 feet in length with the largest measuring 39 feet. The campground provides hot showers, flush toilets, drinking water, a dump station, and an amphitheater for seasonal campfire programs. Beyond the family campground, six primitive group campsites accommodate groups ranging from 17 to 300 people. These sites are located behind a separate group camp gate and include picnic tables, fire rings with grills, drinking water, and vault toilets, but do not have access to showers or flush toilets. RVs and trailers are not permitted at group sites. The campground operates seasonally and reservations must be made in advance through ReserveAmerica. Gates are locked from 10pm to 8am, and generators and smoking are prohibited throughout the campground.
Directions
From Castro Valley, take Redwood Road south for approximately 8 miles to reach the campground entrance.
