Live Oak Campground is one of three family campgrounds in Mount Diablo State Park, nestled in a sheltered, wooded glen at 1,450 feet elevation near the popular Rock City area. Located just one mile above the South Gate Entrance Station off South Gate Road, this campground provides convenient access to impressive sandstone formations and hiking trails throughout the park. The campground features 22 individual campsites designed primarily for tent camping but can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 20 feet in length. Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit or stove, with water and restroom facilities available throughout the campground. Showers are provided at no additional cost. The campground operates on a reservation system through ReserveCalifornia, with bookings available up to 6 months in advance. Campers should note that alcoholic beverages are prohibited throughout Mount Diablo State Park. During fire season (generally May to October), the park may be subject to closure due to extreme fire danger, and visitors should call ahead to confirm park status. Gates are closed from sunset to 8:00 am, with check-in at 2:00 pm and check-out at noon. The maximum stay is 15 consecutive days or 30 days per calendar year.
Directions
From Danville, take Mount Diablo Scenic Boulevard to the South Gate Entrance Station. Continue one mile up South Gate Road to Live Oak Campground on the left.
