About
Morris Hill Campground is a peaceful, rustic destination perched on a ridge overlooking the southern end of Lake Moomaw in the George Washington National Forest. Located just a half-mile from the lakeshore, this family-friendly campground provides easy access to the lake's sandy swim beaches at Coles Point, a fishing pier, and boat ramp facilities. The campground offers both family campsites and group sites that can accommodate up to 25 guests with space for eight tents. Amenities include a playground for children, picnic tables, fire pits for campfires, and modern restroom facilities with flush toilets and showers. Campers can enjoy traditional camping activities like roasting s'mores, berry picking in the surrounding woods, and wildlife watching for deer and various waterfowl species. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. Lake Moomaw is a cold-water, 2,530-acre lake fed by the Jackson River, offering excellent fishing for brown and rainbow trout, bass, and crappie. Back Creek also provides quality trout fishing. Hikers and bikers can explore the Morris Hill Bike Trail and Fortney Loop Trail. The Jackson River downstream offers fly fishing, canoeing, rafting, and kayaking opportunities. The quaint resort village of Hot Springs is located about 30 minutes east of the lake.
