About

Mogote Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the Conejos River valley in Rio Grande National Forest, offering campers direct access to one of Colorado's premier Gold Medal trout fisheries. The campground sits at 8,400 feet elevation and is divided into two loops: the upper loop set back among the trees, and the lower loop positioned directly along the fast-moving river where many sites offer waterfront views. The 40 campsites include 21 pull-through sites, making it accessible for RVs and trailers. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground provides drinking water via hydrants, vault toilets (including an accessible facility in the upper loop), and trash receptacles. No electric hookups are available. Popular activities include fishing for rainbow and brown trout, hiking the 15-mile Elk Creek Trail or the 10.9-mile South Fork Conejos Trail, and day trips on the nearby Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, a historic narrow-gauge steam train accessible from Antonito.
