About

Meadow Creek Cabin was originally built in the early 1920s as a Forest Service guard station and consists of five buildings along the steep-sided canyon of Meadow Creek. The main cabin contains an office, sleeping area, and kitchen, while a separate bunkhouse offers a main room and loft. A tack shed, woodshed, and outhouse complete the compound. The cabin sleeps up to six people and provides beds with mattresses, wood heat, a wood cook stove, propane refrigerator, dishes, cookware, kitchen utensils, and a Coleman lantern. Access requires a 15-mile hike or horseback ride on National Recreation Trail #726 from Slim's Camp, or approximately 14 miles via Kirk's Fork Trail #830 and Butte Creek Trail #809 (motorcycle accessible). Experienced livestock are recommended due to rugged terrain. Guests must pick up the door key at Moose Creek Ranger Station. Meadow Creek is a major tributary of the Selway River known for clean, cold water and excellent fly fishing for trout after July 1st. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, elk, moose, deer, cougar, and the rare Coeur d'Alene Salamander found only near the Selway River and Meadow Creek.
