About
Lupine Campground sits along Blue Ridge Road in the Angeles National Forest within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. At approximately 7,900 feet elevation, this primitive campground offers a remote backcountry experience just 9 miles from Inspiration Point on Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2). The campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis, though seasonal road closures from early to mid-November through late April or early May make it hike-in only during winter months. Facilities are minimal: vault toilets and picnic tables are provided, but campers must bring all their own water as none is available on-site. Blue Ridge Road (Forest Service Road 3N06) is notorious for poor conditions, and 4x4 vehicles are highly recommended when the road is open. The section between Lupine and Cabin Flat Campground is severely overgrown and difficult to navigate. To reach the campground, take Blue Ridge Road from Angeles Crest Highway approximately 5 miles west of Wrightwood. An Adventure Pass ($5/day or $30/annual) is required for day use, with overnight camping costing $5 per night. Fire restrictions may prohibit campfires and portable stoves depending on current conditions.
Directions
From Angeles Crest Highway (Highway 2), approximately 5 miles west of Wrightwood, take Blue Ridge Road (Forest Service Road 3N06) to the campground. The road is in poor condition and 4x4 vehicles are highly recommended.
