Closed due to damage from the September 2024 Bridge Fire. The historic Grassy Hollow Visitor Center was destroyed in the fire. The surrounding area including Vincent Gap, Inspiration Point, Blue Ridge Road, and nearby campgrounds remain closed while hazardous tree removal continues. No reopening date has been announced.

Set in a meadow surrounded by oak and pine forest at 7,300 feet elevation, Grassy Hollow Campground offers 10 tent-only sites on the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway. The campground sits within the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, just northwest of the Los Angeles metro area. Summer temperatures average in the high 70s with cool nights, making it a refreshing escape from the valley heat. Each campsite accommodates up to 8 campers with a fire pit, picnic table, and gravel parking pad for up to 2 vehicles. No motorhomes or trailers are permitted. Facilities include pit toilets and potable water. The nearby ski resort town of Wrightwood offers restaurants and supplies. Hikers can access the Pacific Crest Trail and Blue Ridge Trail directly from the area. Wildlife viewing is popular, with possible sightings of bobcats, mountain lions, black bears, Nelson bighorn sheep, and the endangered California condor. The Angeles Crest Highway provides scenic drives through chaparral, high desert landscapes, and pine forests.

Directions

Grassy Hollow is located on the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway (State Route 2), approximately six miles west of Wrightwood, California. From Wrightwood, take State Route 2 westward; the campground is situated near the Grassy Hollow Visitor Center.
