About
Lake Campground offers a scenic, secluded retreat on Jackson Lake in the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, approximately 2.5 miles west of Big Pines. At 6,100 feet elevation, the eight campsites are shaded by scattered oak trees and Jeffrey pines, providing relief from the summer heat of the Los Angeles basin below. Jackson Lake is stocked with rainbow trout and bluegill, making it a popular fishing destination. Powerboats are prohibited, so only canoes and inflatable boats are allowed on the water, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere for swimming and paddling. Each site accommodates up to eight campers and two vehicles. Bears frequent the area, so all food must be stored in approved bear-resistant containers. Note that the standard Adventure Pass and Interagency passes are not accepted here; a Big Pines Pass from Mountain High Resort is required. Groceries and services are available in the community of Wrightwood, approximately 5.5 miles away.
