Lake Campground offers a peaceful mountain retreat on the shores of Jackson Lake in the Big Pines Recreation Area of Angeles National Forest. At 6,100 feet elevation, the campground features just 8 secluded campsites shaded by Jeffrey pines and scattered oak trees, providing plenty of privacy and space. The small size creates an intimate camping experience while still offering all essential amenities including drinking water, vault toilets, food storage lockers, grills, and picnic tables. Jackson Lake is the centerpiece of the campground experience, offering excellent opportunities for fishing (stocked with trout and bluegill), swimming, and canoeing. Powerboats are prohibited, maintaining a peaceful and quiet atmosphere. The location provides easy access to hiking trails including the Pacific Crest Trail and Blue Ridge Trail, as well as the scenic Angeles Crest Highway. Wildlife viewing is popular, with opportunities to spot bobcats, mountain lions, bears, and Nelson bighorn sheep. The campground is operated by Mountain High Resort under special use permit and is located approximately 5.5 miles from the town of Wrightwood, where groceries and services are available. Summer daytime temperatures typically reach the low 80s with cool evenings.
