Planning to Camp? (Stay Limits/Dispersed Camping Restrictions) til Dec. 15, 2026
The following is prohibited within the Angeles National Forest and San Gabriel Mountains National Monument from Dec. 16, 2022, through Dec. 15, 2026:
About
Located in the San Gabriel Mountains at 8,300 feet elevation, Guffy Campground is a small, primitive campground offering six campsites in a remote mountain setting. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring. The campground serves as an access point for the Pacific Crest Trail, making it popular with thru-hikers and backpackers. The campground is reached via Blue Ridge Road, a rough dirt road that becomes increasingly challenging. The final mile requires a four-wheel drive vehicle. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no water available on-site. Visitors must bring all water needed for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and extinguishing campfires. Due to the seasonal closure of Blue Ridge Road from early/mid-November through late April/early May, the campground becomes hike-in only during winter and spring months. The gate at Inspiration Point closes to vehicles, requiring a 6-mile hike to reach the campground. Despite the remote location and primitive conditions, the campground experiences heavy usage during the accessible season.
Directions
Located on Blue Ridge Road, 6 miles from the intersection with Angeles Crest Highway (CA-2), which is 1.5 miles west of Big Pines. The dirt road becomes rough and requires four-wheel drive for the last mile. From mid-November through late April/early May, the road is closed at Inspiration Point gate, requiring a 6-mile hike.
