About

Low Gap Campground is located within the Chattahoochee Wildlife Management Area of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, veiled by the Mark Trail Wilderness. This 13-site developed campground offers a unique camping experience that comes as close as possible to dispersed camping while still providing essential amenities. The campground is named for Low Gap Creek, which flows through the property and is stocked with trout weekly from April to July by the Georgia DNR. Each of the 13 sites includes a picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. The campground features one vault toilet located across the bridge at the back of the campground, and drinking water is available from a hand-pump well that operates seasonally. Three areas throughout the campground have bear-resistant trash bins. Due to narrow, curving, and steep access roads, RVs are limited to 28 feet maximum. The area offers exceptional recreation opportunities including fishing in Low Gap Creek and the nearby Chattahoochee River, whose headwaters originate in the Mark Trail Wilderness. Hiking opportunities abound with easy access to the Appalachian Trail and nearby waterfalls including Anna Ruby Falls, Dukes Creek Falls, and Ravens Cliff Falls. Scenic drives along Forest Service Road 44 (Upper Chattahoochee River Road) provide views of roadside waterfalls. The alpine village of Helen is just a few miles south, offering tubing, swimming, shops, and restaurants. The campground operates from mid-March through mid-December and is available by reservation only through Recreation.gov.
