About

Boggs Creek Recreation Area sits at approximately 1,800 feet elevation in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, positioned between Waters Creek and Boggs Creek in northeast Lumpkin County near Blood Mountain. This recreation area was formerly a rustic campground with 26 sites but has been converted to day-use only recreation. The site provides day-use parking in designated spaces along Boggs Creek with scattered picnic tables throughout the area. The crystal-clear mountain stream is popular with trout anglers, and the area offers access to day hiking trails that lead deeper into the surrounding national forest and Chestatee Wildlife Management Area. The setting features towering pine, hemlock, and poplar trees that provide a peaceful forest atmosphere. Boggs Creek Recreation Area operates as a pack-in, pack-out facility with no amenities provided. Visitors must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The area is open sunrise to sunset seven days per week with no fee required. RVs, trailers, and off-highway vehicles are not permitted. For overnight camping, visitors are directed to nearby developed campgrounds including DeSoto Falls Recreation Area, Dockery Lake Recreation Area, and Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area.
