About
Vogel State Park, established in 1931 as Georgia's second oldest state park, is nestled at 2,500 feet elevation at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest. The 242-acre park offers diverse overnight accommodations including 90 tent, trailer, and RV campsites, 18 walk-in campsites, a pioneer campground, and 34 cottages. Of the standard campsites, 95 feature water and electric hookups, though the campground is not suitable for large RVs due to its mountainous terrain. The park's centerpiece is its 22-acre lake, open to non-motorized boats with seasonal rentals available. Visitors can swim at the mountain-view beach during summer months, fish year-round, or explore over 20 miles of hiking trails. Popular routes include the 4-mile Bear Hair Gap loop, an easy lake loop leading to Trahlyta Falls, and the challenging 13-mile Coosa Backcountry Trail that connects to Blood Mountain and the Appalachian Trail near Neel Gap. The park is particularly stunning during fall when the Blue Ridge Mountains display vibrant foliage. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, many of the park's original structures remain. The CCC museum tells the story of the "CCC Boys" and operates seasonally. Additional amenities include hot showers, a general store, miniature golf, picnic shelters, and Wi-Fi at the visitor center, museum, shelters, and cottages. The park is open year-round from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with the office open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
