About
Island Park Campground is nestled at 8,600 feet in a lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, and spruce forest along West Tensleep Creek in Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest. Located 21 miles northeast of Ten Sleep on US Highway 16, the campground offers 9 single-family sites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets, hand-pump drinking water, and trash collection are provided. West Tensleep Creek runs adjacent to the campground, with West Tensleep Lake just four miles away. The 125-acre lake is open to non-motorized watercraft only, making it ideal for canoeing and fishing for rainbow, brown, and brook trout. Meadowlark Lake, seven miles distant, allows motorized craft with a no-wake rule. Hiking trails into the Cloud Peak Wilderness begin about five miles from the campground. The campground is administered by Rustic Freedom / Gallatin Canyon Campgrounds. Sites accommodate a maximum of 8 people with two non-towed vehicles allowed per site. Limited space allows for no more than two 8'x10' tents per site. A 14-day stay limit applies.
Directions
From Ten Sleep, WY, take Hwy 16 east for about 21.2 miles to Forest System Road 27. Turn left and drive about 3 miles north to the campground. From Buffalo, WY, travel west 42 miles on US Hwy 16 to FSR 27 at Deer Haven Lodge, turn right and go 3 miles north.
