About

Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site Campground sits in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, offering access to over 10,000 years of cultural history. The campground features approximately 27 primitive campsites scattered along Medicine Lodge Creek, each with a picnic table and fire ring. The main attraction is a large sandstone cliff displaying hundreds of Native American petroglyphs and pictographs created by ancient inhabitants. The campground accommodates both tent campers and RVs, though no hookups are available. Facilities include restrooms with flush toilets and showers, potable water, and trash service. Free public horse corrals are available for equestrian visitors. The site also features an interpretive history cabin, self-guided trails, and opportunities for wildlife viewing, hiking, biking, and ATV riding in the surrounding 12,000-acre Medicine Lodge Wildlife Habitat Management Area. Located northeast of Hyattville, the campground provides a peaceful, primitive camping experience with modern conveniences. The site is managed by Wyoming State Parks and requires certified weed-free hay for horses. Maximum two vehicles per campsite.
