About

Lathrop State Park holds the distinction of being Colorado's first state park, established in 1962. Covering 1,451 acres in Huerfano County near Walsenburg, the park offers stunning views of the Spanish Peaks and provides a peaceful camping experience in southern Colorado. Two reservoirs, Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake, provide opportunities for fishing, boating, and paddling, with boat ramps at each lake and an accessible kayak/canoe launch. The park features two campgrounds with 103 total sites. Yucca Campground offers a basic tent camping experience with fire pits and picnic tables. Piñon Campground caters to RV campers with paved pull-through and back-in sites, level parking, and up to 50-amp electrical hookups. Both campgrounds have access to water hydrants, a dump station, shower and laundry facilities, and both flush and vault toilets. Beyond camping, Lathrop offers 8 miles of trails and 40 picnic sites. The park is unique among Colorado state parks in adjoining a golf course, making it popular with campers who want to combine outdoor recreation with a round of golf.
