About

Established in 1962 as Colorado's first state park, Lathrop State Park encompasses 1,451 acres near Walsenburg in Southern Colorado. The park features two campgrounds with a combined 103 sites accommodating tents, trailers, and motorhomes. Yucca Campground provides a basic camping experience with picnic tables and fire pits at each site, while Piñon Campground offers improved sites with paved pull-through and back-in spots, paved roads, and electrical hookups up to 50 amps. Both campgrounds are situated near Martin Lake and Horseshoe Lake, and the park is unique as the only Colorado state park adjoining a golf course. The park provides modern amenities including flush and vault toilets, shower and laundry facilities, water hydrants, and a dump station. ADA-accessible campsites are available. The maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period, with check-in at 1 p.m. and check-out at noon. Reservations are required and can be made up to six months in advance. The park gates are open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with quiet hours observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
