About

Southside Campground sits at 8,600 feet elevation in the Wet Mountains within the Lake Isabel Recreation Area. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late 1930s, the 40-acre Lake Isabel is stocked with brown and brook trout and offers non-motorized boating. The nearby St. Charles Creek provides additional fishing opportunities. The campground has 8 pull-through sites designed for RVs, though tight turns and narrow roads limit vehicle length to under 30 feet with no large slide-outs. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Vault toilets are available but potable water is not provided on-site. A nearby lodge offers paddle and rowboat rentals, groceries, and a restaurant. Recreation options include the 15-mile Cisneros Trail open to hiking, biking, motorcycles, and ATVs, which connects to St. Charles Trail leading to St. Charles Peak. The Snow Slide Trail offers additional hiking. Be aware there is no cellphone service at this location and bear-resistant food storage is required.
