About

Cordova Pass Campground sits at the summit of Cordova Pass in the San Isabel National Forest, offering a high-elevation camping experience at 11,248 feet. This small, primitive campground provides tent camping only with three first-come, first-served sites. The remote location rewards campers with access to excellent hiking including the Levy-Krier Trail (#1392), West Peak Trail (#1390), and Salazar Trail (#1392a) in the Spanish Peaks Wilderness. The campground is minimally developed with vault toilets and fire rings, but no potable water. Campers must bring all drinking water and should be prepared for cool nighttime temperatures even in summer. A bear closure order is in effect, requiring all food and scented items to be stored in a bear-resistant manner. Access is via County Road 46 from either Cucharas Pass to the west or from the east approach. The road to the summit can be rough and is typically closed by snow from late fall through mid-May. Each site accommodates a maximum of 8 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles.

Directions

From La Veta, travel south on State Highway 12 for 17 miles to Cucharas Pass. Turn left (east) onto County Road 46 and travel 6 miles to the campground at the summit of Cordova Pass. The campground may also be accessed from the east approach via County Road 46.
