About
Moskey Basin Campground is a remote wilderness campground located at the west end of Rock Harbor Channel on Isle Royale, a roadless archipelago in Lake Superior. The campground offers 6 three-sided shelters and provides first-come, first-served camping for small parties. Boats can dock overnight, and the site is accessible via the Indian Portage and Rock Harbor Trails, by canoe or kayak from Rock Harbor Channel, or by a 2.0 mile portage from Lake Richie. Visitors should note that new food storage guidelines are in effect to reduce human-wildlife interactions, particularly with wolves. The campground features composting toilets, non-potable water, and food storage lockers. No showers are available. Open fires are prohibited; only self-contained stoves are permitted. From June 1 through Labor Day, a 3-night maximum stay limit applies. This is a true backcountry experience requiring visitors to be self-sufficient and prepared for unpredictable Lake Superior weather. No RV or trailer access is possible, and pets are not allowed in the park.
