About

Lake Irwin Campground occupies a scenic position on the western banks of Lake Irwin, nestled in the high country of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forest. At 10,200 feet elevation, the setting features mature Engelmann spruce and subalpine fir providing shade, with the Ruby Mountain Range rising to the west. July and August bring spectacular wildflower displays throughout the area. The campground offers 25 nonelectric tent and RV sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Three vault toilets serve the campground. No potable water is available; campers must bring their own supply. Some sites are ADA accessible, and a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites are offered. Recreation centers on Lake Irwin, which is stocked annually with trout by Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Non-motorized boating and canoeing are permitted. The surrounding terrain provides challenging mountain biking and hiking opportunities. The historic town of Crested Butte, a former coal mining community, lies a short drive away with dining, shopping, and the annual Wildflower Festival.

Directions

From Crested Butte, travel west on Gunnison County Road 12 (Kebler Pass Road) for 6.5 miles to Forest Service Road 826 (Lake Irwin Road). Continue 2 miles to the campground at the end of the road.
