About

Erickson Springs Campground offers a secluded camping experience in the Gunnison National Forest, tucked into a dense spruce and fir forest along Anthracite Creek. The heavy canopy creates a cool, shaded environment that provides relief from summer heat. The campground has 18 first-come, first-served primitive sites, each equipped with a tent pad, picnic table, and combination fire ring/grill. Vault toilets and trash collection are available, but campers must bring their own drinking water. The location serves as a gateway to excellent backcountry recreation. The Dark Canyon Trailhead sits just beyond the campground, providing hiking and equestrian access into the Raggeds Wilderness Area. A separate parking area accommodates horse trailers. OHV enthusiasts can ride Forest Road 795 (Munsey Creek Road) north from the campground to the Raggeds Trailhead. OHV use within the campground itself is prohibited. A separate picnic area with two tables and a restroom is located before the campground entrance. Sites can accommodate tents and smaller camping trailers up to 35 feet, though the narrow forest roads and tight sites make this campground better suited for smaller rigs.

Directions

From Paonia, travel northeast on Highway 133 for approximately 15 miles to County Road 12 (Kebler Pass Road). Turn onto CR 12 and continue east for approximately 6 miles to the Erickson Springs Campground Road, just after crossing the bridge.
