Special Weather Statement issued May 24 at 2:21AM EDT by NWS Gray ME

2:21 AM — 12:00 PM

* The warm air temperatures later this Holiday weekend in the mid 60s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 50s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and in the mid 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! * Winds will be breezy this afternoon with some gusts up to 25 mph across parts of the area. If boating on large bodies of water, these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturning your boat, canoe, or kayak due to increased wave heights.

About

Lake Francis State Park occupies a prime location on the shores of 2,000-acre Lake Francis in Pittsburg, deep in New Hampshire's Great North Woods near the Connecticut Lakes. This remote region draws anglers targeting trout and salmon, hunters pursuing game in the surrounding forests, and outdoor enthusiasts seeking solitude away from southern New Hampshire's busier parks. The campground provides approximately 45 sites across several configurations: standard sites, tent-only sites, tent platforms, lean-tos, and one cabin. Nine sites offer water and electric hookups (20-amp). A standout feature is the dedicated ATV camping area with 9 sites providing direct access to the extensive OHRV trail network spanning over 1,000 miles throughout Coos County. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, a dump station, and a camp store. Recreational opportunities extend beyond camping with a boat ramp, boat rentals, swimming, hiking trails, and a playground. The park transitions to snowmobile and snowshoe access in winter, though the campground itself operates seasonally from mid-May through late October.
