Special Weather Statement issued May 23 at 2:28AM EDT by NWS Gray ME
* Air temperatures in the lower 60s to lower 70s this weekend (50s on Sunday) may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures which are currently only in the mid 50s across Sebago Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee, and in the mid 50s in the regions smaller lakes and rivers. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. When the water temperature is below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could loose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes, or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating this weekend and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket! * Generally light and variable winds shift to southerly today. Winds will be breezy this afternoon with some gusts up to 25 mph. If boating on large bodies of water, these strong winds can increase the likelihood of overturning your boat, canoe, or kayak due to increased wave heights.
About
Jericho Mountain State Park is a ride-in/ride-out campground located less than 10 miles from Berlin in northern New Hampshire's Coös County. The park features 20 primitive campsites consisting of 9 standard RV sites (with driveways ranging from 24 to 40 feet, including 2 pull-through sites), 4 tent-only sites, 2 lean-tos, and 5 rustic cabins. The campground is situated on Jericho Lake, a manmade reservoir offering swimming at a designated beach area, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Gasoline motors are prohibited on the lake, but electric trolling motors up to 3hp are permitted. The park's primary draw is direct trail access to over 75 miles of ATV, UTV, trail bike, and snowmobile trails within the park, with connections to the broader Ride the Wilds regional trail system. ATVs are permitted to access campsites on designated campground roads and driveways. The park includes flush toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a bathhouse. Sites have no hookups but include fire rings and picnic tables. Visitors can explore nearby attractions including Jericho Falls, accessible via a half-mile hike from camping areas. The campground operates seasonally from late May through mid-October, with reservations available up to 11 months in advance through the New Hampshire State Parks reservation system. Check-in is between 1pm and 8pm, and check-out is before 11am. Each site accommodates up to 6 people (maximum 4 adults) and 2 vehicles. Limited cell service is available at the park.
