About

Umbagog Lake State Park sits on the shores of Umbagog Lake, a 7,850-acre wilderness lake straddling the New Hampshire-Maine border. The park's base campground offers developed sites with electric and water hookups, modern restrooms with showers, a dump station, and a camp store selling firewood and supplies. A swimming beach, playground, and boat launch with fuel sales round out the base area amenities. What sets Umbagog apart is its 33 remote campsites and 4 remote cabins accessible only by boat, scattered along the lake's undeveloped shoreline within the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge. These primitive sites offer true backcountry solitude while still providing fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets. The park offers canoe and kayak rentals as well as boat transportation for remote site campers who lack their own watercraft. The lake supports excellent fishing for bass, pickerel, and landlocked salmon, while the surrounding refuge provides prime habitat for moose, loons, bald eagles, and osprey. All outside firewood is prohibited to protect forest health; purchase at the park store.

Directions

From Errol, NH, head east on Route 26 for approximately 7 miles. The park entrance is at 235 East Route 26 in Cambridge, on the left. The park straddles the NH/Maine border; the base campground is on the New Hampshire side.
