About
The Warecove Picnic Shelter at Lake Anna State Park is a 25' x 35' wooden frame structure with a cement floor located in the Warecove Picnic Area, separate from the beach and boat launch. The shelter can accommodate up to 50 people seated at four large picnic tables (equivalent to eight regular-sized tables), with two tables wheelchair accessible via a cement walkway. Groups up to 75 can use the site with additional lawn chairs. The facility includes two pedestal charcoal grills, though bringing additional tables and grills is discouraged. The shelter offers good views of Lake Anna, with boats able to anchor along the nearby shoreline. Restrooms and a small playground are located approximately 50 yards from the shelter. While there are no electric outlets or water hydrants at the shelter, the facility provides a convenient base for day-use activities including access to the park's 15+ miles of trails, fishing areas, and boat launch. The swimming beach is about half a mile away, accessible by carpool. Parking capacity at the Warecove area is 50 vehicles total. Lake Anna State Park encompasses over 3,100 acres with 10 miles of lake frontage on the 13,000-acre Lake Anna. The park features a visitor center with exhibits on the area's gold mining history and natural features, including the historic Goodwin Gold Mine. The lake is renowned for largemouth bass, crappie, and bream fishing.
