About

Kirk Creek Campground is an oceanside paradise perched on a bluff 100 feet above the Pacific Ocean, with each of its 33 campsites offering stunning views of the Big Sur coastline. The spacious, open, grassy sites provide unobstructed ocean vistas where sunrises and sunsets are outstanding. From November to February, whales migrating along the coast can frequently be viewed from the campground. The campground offers direct access to a rocky beach via a short walk, while Sand Dollar Beach, the largest sandy beach in Big Sur and a popular spot for surfing, fishing, and swimming, is located just 5 miles south. Directly across Highway 1 is the Vicente Flats Trailhead, which leads into the Ventana Wilderness. Additional hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails throughout Los Padres National Forest offer scenic views of waterfalls, redwood groves, and mountain meadows. Wildlife in the area includes fox, bobcat, deer, and raccoon, with mountain lions and bears occasionally seen in the surrounding forest. The campground is operated by a concessionaire and offers a mix of reservable sites and first-come, first-served camping during certain periods. No water is available on-site, so campers must bring their own supply.

Directions

Highway 1 is temporarily closed from the Monterey area to the north. From San Luis Obispo, take Highway 1 north for approximately 60 miles to the campground. Alternative access is available via Nacimiento/Ferguson Road.
